SINGAMAKHALIPHA CHILDREN BACK TO SCHOOL

On the 14th of January Africa Unite handed over school items to some of the Singamakhalipha children at a back to school event held at the Gugulethu Sport Complex. The event was attended by Singamakhalipha children, their parents and guardians. Local community newspapers, namely City Vision and the Daily Sun were also present covering the event.Back to School 006

This is one way of actualising our psychosocial support programme meant for vulnerable children in the disadvantaged townships of Nyanga, Gugulethu, Phillipi and Europe.

The donation that was handed over consisted of a shirt, skirt, pants, jersey, socks, school bag, shoes and a ruler. The uniforms were in different colours aligned with the respective school uniforms. Among these children there were also refugee children living at Lower Crossroads in Phillipi Township.Back to School 014

Both parents and the children were very grateful for this assistance and pointed out that they will now be better able and confidence to send their children to school on the official opening day. It is always a challenge for the parent or guardians in townships to provide the school items to their children as most of them are unemployed.

Many thanks to the following funders and individuals who made this event possible namely Lotto, City of Cape Town, Marita McComiskey, the O’Malley family and others, Africa Unite would not have been able to do this without your support.
